Technologies

I am comfortable working with systems programming languages, data pipelines, and other backend technologies. I have experience in programming in C, C++, Rust, Go, Java, and Python. I am an experienced Linux user and am comfortable with basic system administration tasks and shell scripting. I also have experience in other essential software engineering technologies including SQL-based databases, version control systems (git, perforce, mercurial), and various unit and integration testing frameworks and methodologies.

I have also dabbled in digital hardware technologies in my spare time, using various microcontrollers (tinyAVR, megaAVR, ESP32, Xiao SAMD21, etc.) programmed using the Arduino CLI and interfacing with a wide variety of sensor and motor systems. I also have experience in designing printed circuit boards and having them fabricated using third-party services such as JLCPCB.

Experience

I worked at Google as a Software Engineer in Mountain View, CA, from August 2017 to February 2023. In Search/Discover, I helped design and maintain backend infrastructure for engaging content recommendation systems. In Stadia (RIP), I designed and implemented core platform search subsystems, as well as tools for assessing data quality of our internal video game metadata knowledge graph. In YouTube, I designed and implemented systems to automatically ingest shorts upload metadata to various internal systems for discovery and recommendation purposes.

I worked at Google as a Software Engineering Intern in Chapel Hill, NC, from May 2016 to August 2016. There, I worked on the Skia graphics engine, where I developed modern C++ code to emit GLSL shaders that render gradients with hard stop boundaries on the GPU more accurately and efficiently.

I worked at IBM as an Extreme Blue Technical Intern in Austin, TX, from May 2015 to August 2015. I worked on implementing a POSIX-compliant FUSE filesystem interface for Openstack Swift object storage in C and C++. I also travelled to IBM's HQ in Armonk, NY to pitch the project to senior executives.

I worked at ARA as a Technical Intern in Raleigh, NC, from July 2014 to August 2014. I contributed heavily to the Java frontend of BioGears, an open-source human physiology engine. I also translated key components of the core engine from C++ to Java for use in the frontend GUI.

Education

I earned my MS in Computer Science in 2017 at UNC, finishing with a graduate GPA of 4.0 out of 4.0. My MS comprehensive paper was titled "An Overview of Coherent Noise Functions and Procedural Generation". I also TA'd for classes in data structures. Relevant courses include Computer Vision, Advanced Algorithms, Computer Forensics, and Mobile Computing Systems.

I earned my BS in Computer Science with Honors in 2016 at UNC, finishing with an undergraduate GPA of 3.6 out of 4.0. My honors thesis focused on applying virtual reality to medical training scenarios and was titled "Virtual Presence for Medical Procedures". This work also culminated in authorship in a paper titled "Immersive Learning Experiences for Surgical Procedures". I also TA'd for several classes, including introductory programming and web programming. Relevant courses include Compilers, Operating Systems, Algorithms, Data Structures, Computer Architecture, Digital Logic, Computer Graphics, Parallel and Distributed Computing, Computer Security, and many others.
